Every church has them! Those wonderful ongoing activities or experiences that make them unique. At First United Methodist Church of Celina, we're no different. What follows is not exhaustive (that would be exhausting), but a sample of what makes us the First Family.
Kick-Off Sunday: On the Sunday before school starts in the Fall, we encourage everyone to bring their school bags and backpacks to be prayed over. Our church provides an Orange & White Lunch with burgers & hot dogs after services that day. Then Reverend John leads us in a Holy Spirit Pep Rally to bless the students, teachers, and administrators as they begin another successful year! Our members also donate cookies that are delivered to school campuses in Celina, Gunter, and Prosper on the first day of school.
Blood Drive: Twice a year, we coordinate with the Carter Blood Care Center to set up their mobile blood donation site outside our sanctuary. Members can give blood as they are coming and going from church that day!
Promotion Sunday: Promotion Sunday is the day our children move up to the next grade in Sunday School/Small Groups! Incoming K-4th Graders become part of our Children’s Group! Incoming 5th-6th Graders become part of our Junior Youth Group! Incoming 7th-12th Graders become part of our Youth Group!
3rd Grade Bible Presentation: After school starts, our Children's Ministry team presents our 3rd graders with a brand new children's Bible just for them. The ceremony is performed during both worship services. Teaching our children to read their new Bible to grow in their faith is a very high priority in our Children's Ministry program!
All Saints Sunday: On the first Sunday in November, our church takes time to remember those members who passed away during the previous year. We reflect on what that person meant to our life, and we strive to be a Saint to someone!
Community Turkey Dinner: In November, we serve our community a full-fledged Thanksgiving Dinner. This is a long-standing tradition for our church and for many folks in the communities we serve. In the past, our night of food and fellowship has attracted 300+ people from Celina, Prosper, Gunter, and other towns around our church. This amazing mission outreach is planned, organized, and pulled off by a crew of church volunteers.
Christmas on the Square: Our Music Ministry participates in several performances at Celina's Christmas on the Square event, which includes performances from our Bell Choir, Chancel Choir, Children's Choir, and Praise Band.
Christmas Eve Worship: We invite the community to join us each year for two special Christmas Eve services. Our Family Worship features a message that the whole family can embrace. Our Candlelight and Communion Worship features traditional ceremonies to prepare us for the birth of Jesus!
Ash Wednesday Service: We invite the community to join us each year for our Ash Wednesday Service to prepare ourselves for Lent!
Easter EGGstravaganza: Our Children's Director hides hundreds of eggs with goodies donated by our congregation, and we invite our children and the community to hunt eggs on Palm Sunday.
Maundy Thursday Service: We invite the community to join us each year for the Last Supper ceremony that prepares our hearts for Good Friday.
Easter Services: We begin Easter Sunday services at 8:30a, 9:45a, and 11a!
Senior Recognition: Each year before graduation, our Youth Leader presents each of our High School Seniors with a Study Bible to take with them on their new adventure. After the worship services that day, the families and friends of our Seniors gather for a celebratory lunch!
CHS Taco Lunch: Each year, our church family provides a taco lunch for the Celina High School Senior Class during Graduation practice.
